Cruising Cuba: A Cultural Gem - Westbound on Le Ponant

New for 2018 - Tauck's 11-Day People-to-People Cuba Cruise! Since 2012, under a license granted by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, our People-to-People educational exchange trips to Cuba have brought Tauck travelers together with the people of Cuba to share thoughts and insights and connect with their rich cultural heritage. Now, in 2018, we're proud to launch Cruising Cuba: A Cultural Gem - an 11-day / 10-night People-to-People cruise journey throughout Cuba, featuring a seven-night cruise aboard the three-masted yacht Le Ponant, calling on Cuba's coastal gems between Santiago de Cuba and Havana, and including immersive experiences in the Cuban culture through People-to-People activities. Your trip begins and ends in Miami, and includes an overnight in Miami prior to a flight to Santiago de Cuba. In Santiago de Cuba, explore the birthplace of the 1950s Cuban Revolution; visit Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, with the tombs of José Marti and Fidel Castro; and meet local artists who keep the Afro-Cuban culture alive through music and dance. Interact with local artists in their studios in the vibrant city of Trinidad, a UNESCO heritage site, and explore the nearby Valle de los Ingenios (Sugar Mill Valley). Discover Cienfuegos, Cuba's "Pearl of the South," and its Neoclassical architecture, or visit Playa Giron on the Bay of Pigs, site of the attempted 1961 invasion of Cuba. Sail to Punta Francés on the Isla de la Juventud - a nature reserve only accessible by sea - to explore the mangroves with a local naturalist. In Havana, spend two nights at a premium hotel in the Cuban capital, exploring Habana Vieja, the Museum of the Revolution and Revolution Square. Follow author Ernest Hemingway's footsteps in Cuba... visiting Finca Vigia, his former winter home outside Havana, and Cojimar, a fishing village that inspired The Old Man and the Sea. Talk with students, artists, preservationists, musicians, community leaders, agricultural workers, baseball players and more... dine at privately run paladares, meet Cuban families, and interact with Cubans and their culture... all on this unforgettable Cuba cruise!

7-night Cuba cruise aboard Le Ponant; airfare between Miami and Cuba; overnight in Miami; in Santiago de Cuba, exploring the birthplace of the 1950s Cuban Revolution, and meeting local Afro-Cuban musicians and dancers; interacting with artists in Trinidad or Sugar Mill Valley excursion; visits to Cienfuegos or Playa Giron on the Bay of Pigs; exploring the mangroves with a local naturalist at the Punta Frances nature reserve on Isla de la Juventud; 2-night premium hotel stay in Havana; visits to Habana Vieja and the Museum of the Revolution; following Ernest's Hemingway's footsteps in Cuba with visits to Finca Vigia and the fishing village of Cojimar

Why is Tauck offering travel to Cuba?
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control has granted Tauck a license to provide People-to-People educational exchange travel to Cuba. Our 8-day small group cultural educational trips will enable travelers to meet face-to-face with local Cuban residents from different professions to share thoughts, gain knowledge, and connect with Cuba's deep cultural heritage over six days of People-to-People educational and cultural exchange. Our long experience has shown that the power of travel brings people the world over closer together. In the words of Arthur Tauck, Jr. - "It is my strongest conviction that travel is a key to world peace. By exploring new lands and new cultures, we increase our understanding of others and their understanding of us. It is fortunate that man has always had an innate need to explore the world. By facilitating this appetite, we fulfill a fundamental need of humanity and we make the world a better place.

What does "People-to-People" travel mean?
People-to-People travel is an initiative allowing U.S. citizens and others to travel to Cuba on a limited basis to participate in cultural experiences and have direct contact with the Cuban people in order to learn more about them and their culture. A highly rewarding educational experience, People-to-People travel encourages your direct engagement with the Cuban people you will meet during activities focusing on education and cultural exchange. Our experience has found Cubans to be interested in and well-informed about world events and open to frankly discussing the pros and cons of their country, as long as you are open to the same.
